Can your building hold space for you, for life?
Does it support you in your daily living?
A living building is a home or workspace that can hold space and that fits you. It enhances your life, is a joy to spend time in and makes things easier – not give you a problem.
This is what my Feng Shui practice is about – to assist you align your building with the influences present there as well as with your personal preferences and needs. Feng Shui has the tools to read the seen and unseen influences in a building. It helps us harmonise it with the rhythms of nature and makes creating space easier. Here are some of the principles we apply:
Admit radiant life energy
Life force – Qi, prana – is what energises and brings life to our bodies and also to our buildings.
In a building you can feel the difference between walking into a space that feels radiant and energised to another that is more dull and tired. It’s not just the decor or design that causes such differences. It is also due to subtle energetic influences. Radiant potentials exist in older homes just as in newer ones.
With Feng Shui, we aim to have the most radiant life force enter and fill the building. It’s a source of life, joy and happiness. The direction this life energy comes from is individual to a building. During a Feng Shui consultation, we locate its source and activate it the best way possible.
Collect positive energies to nurture and support you
Once a place is filled with life force, we want to make sure you can benefit from it – that the space can hold you. We aim to collect this positive life force – rather than have it pass you by.
We achieve this through the placement of solid things – walls, furniture, pot plants, etc. in order to give each of your activities adequate support. Of course, in the right balance – not too little, not too much. This helps to anchor you in a particular space. Without adequate support you can feel rattled and dispersed.
We further make sure that the energies in each area are in harmony with your activities there, such as sleep in the bedroom, the ability to concentrate in a workspace, and communication and relaxation in a family area.
I remember visiting the home of a young couple. They did not sleep well and their home-based business was struggling. Upon analysis, I found that they had placed their bedroom where there was disruptive energy for sleep, and their office with sluggish energy for productivity. However, each room was suitable for the opposite activity – the office good for sleep and the bedroom good for work. We were able to swap rooms in this case, after which both areas, sleep and business, improved substantially.
Decorate in harmony with existent energies
There are colours and shapes that are in balance and feel right in a room and others that don’t – regardless of what is in fashion.
Colour schemes feel right when they are in harmony with its existent energies. We use colours and shapes in Feng Shui to bring in certain Elements that either harmonise an area, enhance existing positive potentials or drain any potential negatives. Right colour schemes make a space feel natural. Knowledge of Feng Shui and what elements are needed in a space can save us time and trial and error to work out ourselves.
Working with Feng Shui is a creative process. We find ways of activating the best potentials within the constraints that always exist at a site. My job is to help you shift your space as far as possible towards being life supporting, not to give you a problem.
